On Friday, September 17, the 4th graders from Roanoke Elementary School had their turn to experience, first hand, plein air painting. Having first watched Linnea's Monet Garden for inspiration, they headed to the foot of Vine Street in Roanoke to paint their own "Monet's Bridge." First they all sketched the bridge, and then mirroring an Impressionistic style, painted their pictures with white acrylic and drew colored chalk into the paint using short, angled strokes and many colors. This technique created the texture and feel of an Impressionistic painting. Their "paintings" will be submitted to Arts United for judging for the Renaissance in Roanoke, the fine art show that takes place in Roanoke on Saturday, October 9 from 10am to 5pm.
