2022 Plein Air Competition Winners

Thank you to all the artists who braved the early morning cold and participated at our Plein Air Paintout Competition! Our judge was Abbey Leon with the Fort Wayne Museum of Art. With so many great paintings, picking winners was no easy task. Congratulations again to our winners this year!

2022 Renaissance Workshops

We are excited to announce several workshops during the week of A Renaissance in Roanoke this year. The Roanoke Arts Council in conjunction with several Roanoke businesses have put together the following workshops:

Hand-building with clay is as simple as using your hands to form an object. It encompasses 3 main techniques and forming methods: pinching, coiling and slap building. Once you master these you can make just about anything out of clay!

Glass Art Workshop
Thursday, October 6th, 6-8PM at Lynnlee’s Flower & Design $25
Make either a plant stake or small sun catcher out of broken glass in this popular workshop led by owner Gail Miller. Cost includes all supplies and instruction.

“An introduction to subtractive sculpture; getting rid of what you don’t need” Workshop
Tuesday, October 4, 2022; 6-7:30PM at Eden Park 1886 Studio $15
Ages 12 and up. Workshop requires a minimum of 5 (cutoff date is Monday, October 3rd at noon).
Cost includes materials (ivory soap) and tools, and instruction by Larry (Doc) A Wiedman PhD, a self-taught wood carver since 1980; member of the Roanoke Arts Council, and attending artist of many years.

This is a beginning sculpture workshop where you will learn hands-on techniques of subtractive sculpture carving with ivory soap by one of the best around! This is a fun introduction into the world of 3D art for ages 12 and up.
